Corridos: Historia por Música
Corrido de los Trabajadores
Let me sing to you,
The ways that a fire will spread,
How consistent waves always reach the shore,
How all things can end.
Our men were working,
Indentured servants, they waited to be free.
They waited for a better life
Where food wasn’t a struggle
A rebellion started,
Way back in ’06 a flame burnt.
It’s message spread through the west.
Leaving only the remains of the past.
They marched to the man.
They demanded better wages
Only to be trampled by the rangers.
They were left for their death.
They fought hard.
they lynched two men and killed the foreman
The fight was lost.
But the message had already been sent.
They were thrown into the cars,
their Hands behind their backs.
Their lives were questioned,
Their families were alone.
This message was burnt by the authorities,
but it was dropped into the grass.
The flames crept up,
Telling the whole world of it’s heat.
The fire could not be put out.
The wave of oppression hit the shore.
Our message will never end.
For days to come, we will stand.

Es mensaje difundido a través del oeste.
Quedando sólo los restos del pasado.

Pelearon duro.

La lucha estaba perdida.
Pero el mensaje ya había sido enviado.
Ellos fueron arrojados en los coches,
Sus manos detrás de sus espaldas.
Sus vidas fueron interrogados,
Sus familias estaban solos.
Este mensaje fue quemada por las autoridades,
Pero se dejó caer en la hierba.
Las llamas son arrastrós hacia arriba,
Decirle a todo el mundo de su calor.
El fuego no pudo ser extinguida.
La ola de opresión golpea la costa.
Nuestro mensaje no fin.
Para los próximos días, estaremos a lado.

La Huelga de Canea de 1906
El Corrido de Canea trata de un hombre mexicano. Él está protestando con otros hombres por los derechos de los trabajadores. Es arrestado. El corrido está escrito desde el coche de policía. La huelga de Canea pasó en el año 1906 en la ciudad de Canea, Sonora. Mineros Mexicanos declararon una huelga de sus trabajos extrayendo cobre. Los trabajadores consistían en alrededor de 5,350 mexicanos y 2,200 americanos. A los mexicanos les pagaban 3.5 pesos todos los días. A los estadounidenses las pagaban 5 pesos todos los días por hacer el mismo trabajo.
El primero de Juño, los mexicanos declararon una huelga. Eran dirigidos por unos hombres llamados Juan José Ríos, Manuel Macario Diéguez, y Esteban Baca Calderón. Los objetivos de la huelga eran la eliminación de un capataz llamado Luís, el salario de 5 pesos por 8 horas de trabajo y seguridad en el empleo para los mexicanos. Una vez que la huelga se intensificó, unos trabajadores americanos arrojaron agua sobre ellos y dispararon armas de fuego, matando a tres hombres. Cuando los trabajadores irrumpieron la oficina del municipal presidente, fueron capturados por 300 hombres dirigidos por guardabosques de Arizona.
En total, 23 personas murieron y 22 más resultaron heridos. Los huelguistas fueron enviados a la cárcel. Las noticias informaron que los huelguistas destruyeron una fábrica de madera y mataron a dos empleados que estaban defendiendo la mina. No mostraron la historia de los mexicanos.
La cárcel de Cananea municipal, construida en 1903, es ahora un símbolo de los derechos de los trabajadores y se convirtió en un museo. En 2008, los trabajadores de Canea se declararon en huelga de nuevo. Esta huelga duró 5 meses. La ciudad de Cananea continúa siendo una área de múltiples disputas sobre los derechos de los trabajadores.

Reflection
This project consisted mainly in learning the past tense and actually learning about Mexico, one of the primary countries that use this language. We learned about the Mexican-American war, The Mexican Revolution, and the corridos that were passed on about these events and the people that were related to them. After the history lessons, we were assigned to find and choose a corrido and study its topic. Mine was the Corrido de Canea, and it was about Mexican miners fighting for their rights to better wages and other conditions. We were then asked to wright our own corrido and loosely base it off of the one that we had studied. The lyrics to the corrido I had studied can be found here.
After writing this corrido, we were assigned to also make a project piece to go along side it such as a painting or other work of art. I chose to make my corrido into a song and record it with full instrumentals. I chose this option because I seem to have a decent ear for music.
In all, I really enjoyed this project. It got me very familiar with the past tenses for I had to use them a ton in my corrido and report. I had also learned a lot about the history of Mexican workers, especially in the American owned businesses. I would say the most challenging part of this project was writing the report. It was long and I had to struggle through many grammar issues but I came out on top through some help of some Spanish speaking friends.

Videos Ridículos
In this project, we were put into groups and assigned to produce a 3 minute or greater video of the use of certain Spanish skills. My group chose to do the skill of "Ir + A + Infinitive" which is used to tell what a subject is doing.
Reflection
El trabajo que era más difícil fue la parte fue la inclusión de la habilidad mientras se mantiemos una trama. La edición del video fue que consume mucho tiempo.La mejor parte de la película es cuando yo estrello mi coche. Que era el más divertido para producir. Estoy muy orgulloso del tiempo yo contribuí.
edición era mi trabajo personal además de actuar. Aprendido la habilidad mucho mejor.
Me familiaricé con los programas de edición.
The hardest part of doing this project was trying to include multiple uses of this skill while still maintaining a somewhat interesting story. The editing of the video was also very time consuming and it was my personal job. It took around 3 hours to edit this video which came out to be a little over 3 minutes. I think the most fun thing to shoot for this video is the scene where I crash my car. It was just the most comical on set. Through doing this project, the skill that my group chose is burned into my memory and I also became very familiar with the editing programs on my computer which was a change from what I have used multiple times in the past.

¡Voy a sobrevivir! / I will survive!
In this project, we were tasked in making a survival guide that someone could use to help them in their adventures to Spanish speaking countries. To help us make these, we spoke to a 'country contact' which is someone who has either lived or spent a lot of time in the country that we were writing about. This helped us gain a certain authenticity that primarily internet research could not give us. Along with our survival guide, we also presented skits during the exibition. These were skits based off of scenarios that were included in our survival guides.
Reflection
The most difficult part of this project, for me personally, was editing and formatting my final survival guide. It took a very long time. The most fun part of this project was talking to my country contact. It was very interesting listening to what she had to say about Mexico. I am very proud of the final product that my project had become. Even though there were some errors in it, the book itself was extremely refined. I learned a lot about Mexico in this project and it really could help me if I ever go there.
Reflexión
La parte más difícil de este proyecto fue el formato.
Le tomó mucho tiempo.
La parte más divertida estaba hablando a mi contacto de mi país.
Fue interesante aprender sobre sus experiencias en México.
Estoy muy orgulloso de mi proyecto final.
Hubo algunos errores en ella, pero el libro fue muy refinados. Aprendido mucho de México y podría usar esto viajamos allí.
